A few days ago, while organizing files on my computer, I suddenly noticed an interesting phenomenon.
My Documents folder is filled with files of all kinds of formats: .pptx, .docx, .xlsx, .pdf…
What makes me even more uneasy is that these file formats are all closed.
A PowerPoint file from ten years ago may look completely different when opened today; old company documents become uneditable once you leave specific software; some documents even become inaccessible once they leave the cloud.
