Last week, while browsing arXiv, I came across a technical report from the Alibaba Cloud Tongyi-MAI team: MAI-UI Technical Report: Real-World Centric Foundation GUI Agents (arXiv:2512.22047).
They open-sourced a series of GUI foundation agent models called MAI-UI, covering the full range from 2B to 235B-A22B parameters.
After reading the report and checking the demos, I think this has a lot of potential: it doesn’t just “understand” the screen—it can perform complex tasks step by step, like booking tickets, sending emails, or checking the weather, all while considering real-world deployment scenarios.
