Over the past two years, the development speed of AI programming assistants has been nothing short of insane. From the initial simple code completion to now being able to write complete functions and even refactor entire modules, AI’s ability to write code has become increasingly powerful.

But problems have arisen along with it. Although AI writes code quickly, you still have to watch it constantly, constantly worrying that it might misunderstand the requirements, produce buggy code, or introduce security issues.

Many teams have had this exact experience: you give the AI a task, then keep checking whether the output is correct, whether the code has problems, and then have to explain to the AI where it misunderstood. You originally wanted to use AI to improve efficiency, but instead ended up with a lot more management overhead.

AI feels more like an intern that needs constant supervision than a team member who can work independently.

Recently, OpenAI open-sourced a new project called Symphony, which completely changes this mindset.

Instead of letting AI write code and then staring at it the whole time, why not let AI autonomously handle the entire development process, while we only need to manage the work itself? This idea is extremely appealing. Let’s take a look at how it achieves this.
